Collective Worship at East Claydon C of E School & Preschool
At East Claydon, Collective Worship is a special time when we come together as a school family to pause, reflect, learn and grow. Rooted in our Christian vision of “Building Each Other Up”, worship helps children develop spiritually, morally, socially and emotionally while exploring what it means to live well alongside others.
Our worship programme is designed to be inclusive, invitational and inspiring, ensuring that every child feels welcome and valued, regardless of background or faith tradition.

Our approach to worship supports children to:

Building Each Other Up
Ultimately, Collective Worship is one of the ways we bring our vision to life. Through stories, reflection, prayer and shared experiences, we help children understand that they are part of a community where everyone matters and where we are called to support, encourage and build one another up every day.
What Happens During Collective Worship?
Each act of worship follows a consistent structure:
Gather
Children come together as a school community and are welcomed into a time of reflection. Worship begins with a shared response that reminds us of our vision:
“We gather to build each other up.”
“Through kindness, collaboration, courage and joy.”
Engage
Children explore a Bible verse, Christian teaching or key theme. This is often accompanied by a carefully crafted story that helps children make connections between faith, values and everyday life. Stories are rooted in real-life situations that children can relate to and encourage thoughtful discussion.
Respond
Children are invited to think deeply about the message through questions, discussion and our spirituality framework:
- WOW – moments of wonder and noticing
- NOW – moments of reflection and stillness
- OW – opportunities for action and response
Pupils are encouraged to consider how the message might influence their choices, relationships and behaviour.
Prayer or Reflection
Children are invited to join in with a prayer or use the time for quiet personal reflection. Participation is always invitational and children are free to engage in a way that feels meaningful to them.
Send
Worship concludes with a practical challenge that encourages children to live out the theme during the week ahead and continue building others up through their actions.
